Care Philosophy

Chestnut Ridge Pediatric Associates is committed to providing comprehensive medical care for children from birth to age 21. Our physicians work with patients and families as partners in health.

We require the presence of a parent at check-ups for all children under the age of 18. We feel it is very important that we communicate with and counsel both the teenager and the parent at these yearly check-ups.

H1N1 UPDATE (11/20/09)

WE RECOMMEND THAT ALL OF OUR PATIENTS AGES 6 MONTHS THROUGH 22 YEARS RECEIVE BOTH SEASONAL FLU VACCINE AND THE H1N1 VACCINE.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE DOSES OF INJECTABLE H1N1 VACCINE FOR INFANTS AGED 6 - 23 MONTHS OF AGE AND H1N1 MIST FOR CHILDREN 2 YEARS AND OLDER.  IF YOU HAVE A CHILD WHO HAS NOT RECEIVED A FIRST DOSE OF H1N1 VACCINE YOU MAY CALL THE OFFICE FOR AN APPOINTMENT.

IF YOUR CHILD REQUIRES A SECOND DOSE OF H1N1 VACCINE (6 MONTHS - 8 YEARS OLD) YOU MAY CALL THE OFFICE ONE WEEK BEFORE THE BOOSTER DOSE IS DUE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT.  BOOSTER DOSES ARE TO BE GIVEN NO SOONER THAN FOUR WEEKS AFTER THE FIRST DOSE.  THIS MEANS YOU SHOULD CALL THE OFFICE AT LEAST THREE WEEKS AFTER  THE INITIAL DOSE WAS GIVEN TO SCHEDULE THE BOOSTER DOSE.  AT THIS TIME WE HAVE ONLY INTRANASAL H1N1 MIST FOR BOOSTER DOSES FOR CHILDREN OVER 2 YEARS OF AGE.  CHILDREN UNDER TWO YEARS WILL RECEIVE INJECTABLE VACCINE.  IF YOUR CHILD IS OVER TWO YEARS OF AGE AND RECEIVED AN INJECTABLE DOSE OF H1N1 VACCINE FOR THE FIRST DOSE, IT IS ACCEPTABLE FOR THE SECOND DOSE TO BE INTRANASAL MIST.  CHILDREN WHO HAVE ALREADY REACHED THEIR 9TH BIRTHDAY DO NOT REQUIRE A SECOND DOSE OF VACCINE.

WE HAVE A VERY LIMITED AMOUNT OF INJECTABLE VACCINE FOR PREGNANT WOMEN WHOSE CHILDREN CURRENTLY COME TO OUR PRACTICE.  PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT AND WANT TO RECEIVE A DOSE IN OUR OFFICE.

PARENTS OF INFANTS UNDER 6 MONTHS OF AGE MAY CALL THE OFFICE FOR A DOSE OF INTRANASAL H1N1 MIST.  PARENTS MUST BE UNDER 50 YEARS OF AGE WITH NO EGG ALLERGY OR CHRONIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS.  THERE IS A $30 ADMINISTRATION CHARGE FOR THE VACCINE.

THE ONLY H1N1 VACCINE THAT IS AVAILABLE FOR CHILDREN 2 YEARS AND OLDER IS THE INTRANASAL H1N1 MIST.  THERE IS A MINIMUM TWO WEEK INTERVAL BETWEEN SEASONAL FLUMIST AND H1N1 MIST.

***BECAUSE OF THE SHORTAGE OF INJECTABLE VACCINE WE FEEL CHILDREN WITH MILD TO MODERATE ASTHMA SHOULD RECEIVE THE H1N1 MIST.  PLEASE CALL ON PHONE ADVICE HOUR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS**

WE HAVE NO VACCINE FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE NOT PATIENTS OF THE PRACTICE OR PARENTS.  TO FIND A FLU VACCINE VISIT http://www.nj.gov/health/flu/findflushot.shtml or www.bergenhealth.org

WE ARE STILL TAKING APPOINTMENTS FOR THE SEASONAL FLU MIST AND INJECTABLE SEASONAL FLU.

SAFETY OF ALL FLU VACCINES HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED.  FOR MORE INFORMATION VISIT CDC.GOV/H1N1FLU

Seasonal Flu - Injectable (10/20/09)

We have received doses of Seasonal Flu - Injectable for children over 3 who cannot receive FluMist (sick asthmatics, those with chronic diseases). Please call the office to schedule an appointment for your child if they need this vaccine.
